It is currently already in Ubuntu > (http://packages.ubuntu.com/kzenexplorer). I created a brand new Debian > package (lintian clean except for lack of a man page) before noticing it > was in Ubuntu. Which is preferred, a new package or using the Ubuntu > one? And if the latter, is it simply done by using the Ubuntu > orig.tar.gz/diff.gz/dsc ? You are still responsible for the debian package, so simply taking the ubuntu one without further checks that it follows the debian requirements is not good. If I was you, I'd go with what I had created since this is what I know and can guarantee for. Taking a look at the ubuntu package and borrowing some ideas from it if appropriate is also good (check packaging licensing though). On the other hand, if ubuntu package is much superior, you may want to take it and check if everything is alright - debian/copyright, other control files etc, pretending that you see it for the first time. In any case, cooperation with the ubuntu maintainer should be more productive than two solo performances, I guess.
