This is happening because you don't have a built package in your main
directory. Try going back into the older version's directory and running
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
Once that is done, delete the directory for the untarred new version
source and then run the uupdate command again. It will find the *.diff
you just created and apply it. The debian directory is in the diff as it
is not part of the upstream source.
