Also, checking if something fresher is present is in upstream could be
facilitated because there is no need to look for the copyright file
and ge the info from there.
If the info is present in the copyright file, why isn't it parsed
automaticaly to be displayed on the package page?
I have always loved that EVERY Gentoo package has a direct link to upstream;
One will be able to get more info THAN the _short_ description in the
debian Description field. I thought that is the whole point...

There's nothing wrong with providing a Homepage: link or any other
useful information in your Description, but the lack of one isn't
necessarily a bug. It may possibly be a wishlist request, but that's
pretty much it. It's up to the maintainer in the end if including a
Homepage: link is useful or not; they should be fully capable of
making this decision.
Still I don't understand why is this reservation towards providing a
Homepage link (even if via a new Homepage field in the control file)?!
As far as keeping a repository of package names and their upstream
locations with screenshots, that's really something that freshmeat is
good at, not something that packages.debian.org does well currently.
Exactly, that's why Debian shoudl link to the upstream.
Think from a user POV, not from a Debian maintainer's view.
