You can for many tasks use gpg instead. aespipe is most useful in
combination with loop-AES as it understands the on-disk format of
those encrypted images and partitions.

Most people use aespipe to access encrypted disk images when there
is no kernel support available, or eg. to write encrypted CD images
that can be transparently mounted.
