Yes, ask the maintainer ... I cced him. If you don't get a response
within 2 weeks, then you may assume yes. In the meantime you can prepare
your packages.

Also, xeuklides is going to be part of debian-edu, so you might want to
join the debian-edu@lists.debian.org mailing list.

BTW, if the two packages provide the same software, you should find out
why it is that way and if there's no good rationale, you should remove
one of them to keep only one copy of it (by submitting a bug against
ftp.debian.org, cf doc in developers-reference).
