Put the line

nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

into the file /etc/resolv.conf, where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is address of the 
nameserver of your ISP. In the future study using package "bind" or similar to 
speed up your Internet connection. HTH.
