There is a caveat: hardlinks do not work across partitions,
and one is generally not aware of the partition schema on the target
machines (on my machine, /usr/lib has been moved to another partition
as my /usr ran out of space).
Given that, hardlinks that do not point to another file in the
same directory can be dangerous. There no policy against it, though.
