Some of us are involved in the design of an
upgrade kit for donated computers for distribution
to non-profits, NGOs, schools, etc.
We are in email with motherboard/CPU OEMs to have a
motherboard created which can make the best possible
use of the heritage equipment which is donated, on
the least amount of electric power. Many sites are
either off grid entirely, or where utility power is
not reliable, and battery banks must be used.
Part of that is the integration of software which
makes the least demands on hardware, but still can
get onto the net, do accounting, compose reports,
and educate.
To cross the digital divide as cheaply as possible.
