Don't invent one at all.  By doing so, you would take up part of the
namespace that would be available to upstream, and saddle them with
your decision.

If upstream hasn't committed to a soname yet, then I recommend
packaging it as a static library only.  Make a shared version when
the they commit to maintaining binary compatibility.
