Here's how I did it.

1. Install debootstrap
2. use debootstrap to create a chroot enviroment, and move your source
into it.
3. chroot into your new enviroment
4. try to build your package.
5. When it fails, install the needed package, and add that package to
the Build-Depends line.  

You're done.
