IIRC dpkg doesn't have a problem and just ignores it.

That won't help. The idea was to leave off the tailing "x11amp" and maybe it
wouldn't generate a dependancy. Now that I think about it, editing
debian/substvars after dh_shlibdeps runs may be better.
