dpkg "dry-run" mode?

Maybe this is FAQ. I don't have a potato machine handy where I
work. In general, if developers want to try installing packages they
made for "unstable" to check if it installs okay, is there a machine
to do that?

I know pandora runs potato - but without superuser privileges, is
there a way to "dry-run" dpkg for installation problems? Or is the
only option to actually upgrade my machine to potato to try to see if
my potato packages install properly? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Gopal
