Upstream uses libgmp.so for the library name.  For some reason, it seems
that it's desirable to have a development enviroment for gmp1 _and_ gmp2, so
the Debian maintainer renamed libgmp.so to libgmp2.so.  This way you can
tell the compiler to look for either one, like this:

	cc hello.c -lgmp2
	cc hello.c -lgmp1

I guess there's a pretty good reason for all of this.

So, the answer is yes, you have to modify the makefiles and scripts.
