Doesn't this only really work when all the programs cooperate?
The best way to do this (IMO) would be to use diversions. See
`/usr/sbin/dpkg-divert --help', or look for a
postinst that currently uses dpkg-divert, like ssltelnet or
xaw-wrappers.
