While I agree with the general gist of your comments, I would point out that 
they didn't ask about my family or "very personal questions" at least to the 
greatest extent.

On the pretext of "verifying" my information, they asked me to provide mostly 
the kind of information a financial firm would normally expect to have, like my 
mailing address, full name, DOB, and some others, but, iirc, they also asked 
for my full SSN (instead of the last 4 digits -- which should have been a red 
flag), and for a credit card (which should have been a red flag).
