I think the programming language is only relevant if it is a development
package.  If it is a user application there should be no reason to worry
about the language the application was written in.

I think flexbar should be a nice target.  If I remember right it also
has a build time test suite you can re-use.  Hisat2 is also an interesting
target as well as saint.
