Yes, we should target the latest upstream release. What is in the
repository currently is just what Andreas had done a couple years ago.

I think you should first file the ITP. You would use
$ reportbug wnpp --no-query-bts
Then, to update the packaging, you should use uscan(1) to retrieve the
latest upstream source in order to make sure that the debian/watch file
is configured properly (the format of this file is described in the
uscan manpage). The downloaded tarball can then be incorporated into the
packaging using the `gbp import-orig --pristine-tar` command from
git-buildpackage.
If you already did this, go ahead and push to alioth. Make sure to push
all branches and tags.
