Re: Ginkgo CADx free version, status?
Hi all,
unfortunately Carlos was no longer valid, so I interchanged some
messages with him on LinkedIn - in Spanish :)
He told me that he actually mentioned on Debian-med that a fork would
be a good idea at the time when Metaemotion was acquired by Nielsen.
He also told me that there is no problem if we continue to use the name
"Ginkgo CADx", because all development has ceased and no further
commercialization of the "pro" version is done.
He also talked about the possibility to also release the code of the
pro version, but he has to ask many people first, and it would be
helpful to have some kind of motivational letter that explains why the
fork, what benefits does it have for the users - I guess since they
don't commercialize it anymore, they woudn't have any benefit anyway.

Well, I will now prepare the project on github, and continue cleaning
the code etc. My focus will be to work on the C++, i.e. try to remove
race conditions, crashes, and the like.
Where I definitely will need help is to set up a proper test
environment (i.e. how do I set-up such a pacs server). Here it would
then be nice if someone would also document the according work
-flows.There is no rush though, because only opening the about dialog
will result in a race condition.
We should also find an approach to get a fast throughput for testing
the software - i.e. since Karsten uses testing I think some approach to
get new versions faster that might not require pinning would be a good
idea.
best,
Gert
