Packaging SPREAD for Debian

Hi Filip,

the Debian Med project tries to include all software which is relevant
in medical care and microbiology into Debian. A colleague of mine
pointed me to SPREAD[1] and I consider it as a valuable target for
distributing it via Debian GNU/Linux.

For doing so I checked out the source code from GitHub[2] to check
whether there are certain released tags we might use as version number.
However, the only hint to a version was inside the file README.textile
which contains the string "Version 1.0.1, 2011". In Debian we have
certain tools to check automatically upstream sites for new versions,
but these are relying on certain parameters. The most used way is that
software is provided as versioned release tarballs (like in this case
for instance spread-1.0.1.tar.gz published at some web space for
instance). I just learned that these tools can also work on tags on
Github. However, we just need anything to define a certain version.

Would you be so kind to consider such a versioning to help bundling
SPREAD into Debian?

Kind regards

       Andreas.
