If the source will be renamed we need to change debian/watch as well to
get notification about the new version.

You have two options for the release tarball:

   1. Release one (official!) source tarball which contains the
      documentation from the Wiki.
   2. Release two (official!) tarballs with one containing the
      freediams code and one freediams-doc tarball.

Whatever you decide we should base the Debian packages on the official
tarball you are releasing and not on a mix from an officially released
tarball plus some "random" Wiki content.

This is somehow connected to the tarball decision above.

Where exactly did you found this?  There might be a GNU hurd port for
freediams but I have not found a sign that this is currently the case.
