Yeah I find this bug personally annoying, will likely find a solution

The question is perhaps more like: 'What do you expect from an installer
of a live image'?

Essentially there are two possible, both correct, answers:
a) install the live image onto the hard disk (which means that you get
the same functionality as on the live stick)

In any case, Calamares already try to remove unneeded pkgs, but this activity is not complete.
