You might examine this thread https://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2014/05/msg00037.html and I adjusted the web builder to use aptitude as the default for a while to see if better for users.

Also, in all the builds I've tried I haven't received a single
notification e-mail which is odd too.

Sorry about no email and I do not log emails that far back. Could you try again and see if the tip from the above mail helps and also if you get an email.
