Thanks. A vanilla build, "lb config -a amd64 -d sid -p standard" against
live-boot from git now boots without this error. Now there is just
live-config to sort out:

live-config:mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/log/live': File exists

Looks like live-config bombs out at this point (autologin fails, login
not possible at all because the 'user' account is not created).
