lh defaults to lenny. so volatile gets enabled. later you change to
squeeze, then you need to disable volatile.

oiow: since some of the configuration options are dependent on others,
we always tell people to call lh config with all arguments only once,
or, if you do multiple calls, you'll need to ensure yourself that the
config is consistent regarding those values that we can't symantically
check.
