your problem has nothing to do with live-helper, but with live-installer
only.
someone more familiar with d-i than me should comment on
1. how it can be made possible to skip grub package installation (!=
grub installation into mbr/partition)
2. would it be reasonable to do a check for the bootloader in d-i, so
that when we're installing from an image, the bootloader only installed
from packages if it's not already included in the image.
to both questions i'm not the person who can answer them.
but i'm sure e.g. otavio could :P
