this has been discussed some time ago already, both the local hook
method (better) or, uname hack (worse) has been mentioned (take one for
each situation, but not both).

also, don't hijack threads on the mailinglist, means, whenever you start
with a new topic, start a new mail by writing a new one, not by replying
to an old one.
