thank you for your report. unfortunately, this is an issue which is
affecting a lot of people. It should be fixed with the current version
of syslinux present in unstable.

It would be very nice if you could test it with a syslinux-test image
(50MB) made for exactely this purpose from
http://live.debian.net/syslinux-test/

This way, you can make sure that the next beta version will work on your
system.
