squashfs-source 1:3.3-3+3.2r2-9 fails to boot

hi,
I'm still in work with the RT kernel for josh and the kernel which is build 
fails to boot -> squashfs-fuckup gives me a hard time on a custom kernel. :-(

kernel builds smoothly with the squashfs-source from the alioth repository.
squashfs-tools 1:3.3-3+3.2r2-9 are used.
seems that everything is in place as described.

but the usb-hdd image fails to boot in qemu with the known error.
the path I have followed is as in the mini-howto which I sent to list earlier.
when I swap the RT-kernel with the standard one, it boots just fine.

it seems, that I've missed some magic and would need some hints.

I also tried with squashfs-tools 1:3.1r2-6.1, which used to work on non custom 
kernels - but no difference.
