I think it was an update path in the frametime that squashfs and/or unionfs 
had bugs, there is code to handle it in casper.

They also stated in their wiki that squashfs+unionfs gives more performances 
than cloop+device mapper.

I think it (cloop+dm code) will be removed in the future.
