Given that the variable LINTIAN_LAB already exists for specifying the
directory of the lab content I had the thought that UNPACK(ED)_DIR would
be only used to direct the non-lab content.

I am not sure if the lab contents are likely to end up large enough that
it would be useful to have them also end up in UNPACK_DIR unless
redirected via LINTIAN_LAB. Is there any noticeable benefit of keeping
the lab in tmpfs while the package contents are written to disk?

If it was the case that all content got redirected by one variable, I
think it would make more sense to call it something like LINTIAN_TMPDIR
whereas if it only redirects the package contents and not the lab, use
UNPACK_DIR?
