Bug#579964: lintian: Perplexing explanation of debian-rules-calls-debhelper-in-odd-order

Package: lintian
Version: 2.4.1
Severity: normal

    W: phaseshift source: debian-rules-calls-debhelper-in-odd-order dh_makeshlibs (line 43)
    N:
N: One of the targets in the debian/rules file for this package calls
N: debhelper programs in an odd order. Normally, dh_makeshlibs should be
    N: called before dh_shlibdeps or dh_installdeb, dh_shlibdeps should be
N: called before dh_gencontrol, and all should be called before
N: dh_builddeb. Calling them in the wrong order may cause incorrect or
N: missing package files and metadata.

SUGGESTION

To my regret, I cannot read from the wording what would be the correct
ordering of the commands. The words "before" and "..before" don't
visualize in my mind. There is too much going on. I'd rather read from
left to right (pkg1, pkg2 ...) and I'm unable to map the terms of
"before" to their representatives.

Perhpas the the paragraph could be rephrased:

The correct order is: 1) ....
   or 2) .... or 3) ....

Or use some notation like:

   A [B | C] D ...
