You didn't answer my question, so I assume you still want that check
to be added.

I fail to understand why you don't just document that any expansion
done by perl's glob implementation can be used thereby 'adding' a new
feature to debhelper.

But anyway, I don't want to waste the time I spent writing the check
just because I don't totally agree with your decission, so I'm
attaching a mbox that can be applied wiht git-am.
