Hi, I just released 1.23.0 RC1. Usual drill: deb(-src) http://jeroen.a-eskwadraat.nl/sw/debian EXPERIMENTAL lintian Depending on what is on your system right now, you might need to do: apt-get install lintian=1.23.0~RC1 Frank Lichtenheld and myself gave it already extensive testing, as you might have been able to see from the commits. The testset is operational again, improving the quality I hope. The amount of fixes that it showed up suggest it does, because those were mostly due to errors already very long in lintian. Please see http://wolffelaar.nl/~jeroen/comp.txt for a wdiff of the tests of 1.22.12 vs 1.23.0, beware that this is lintain 1.23.0 r204, and that the archive was variable beneath it (live mirror), and also that the 1.22.12 run didn't have the -I option specified. Here is also already a draft for a mail to d-d with cc d-boot. Comments welcome, even required if I'm going to put other names beside mine on it :) --Jeroen Subject: Lintian 1.23.0 released Hi, Since today, a lintian 1.23.0 is available from sid. This new version features a lot of new tests for all kinds of things that could go wrong with packaging. It was the result of more than a month worth of coding by the lintian maintainers. Compared to three months ago, lintian has had major improvements, and I'd like to hilight some of them here. For the full changes, read the changelog. - udeb support: .udeb packages are now also checked for common mistakes - There are checks for doing NMU's and QA uploads properly. For example, you will be warned if you're going to do an upload that katie will think is a NMU, but you didn't provide a NMU version number or noted that you are NMU'ing in the changelog. - manpages are better checked, for example, whether the section in the manpage itself corresponds with the real section. Also proper use of \- and - is checked. - A large amount of false positives are now fixed. There might still be false positives: some tests are based on heuristics and thus can fail. Please file bugreports if you think a test is triggered too easily, we will try to fix things promptly then - lintian has now better override support, overrides for tests in the source package can now be overridden in ./debian/source.lintian-overrides We hope lintian will continue to be a useful package-checker providing an easy way to check for common mistakes and oversights.
