I get the same impression.
Hence, I agree that the above-quoted clause seems to be troublesome.

I would strongly recommend upstream to adopt a well-known Free Software
license. The one which seems to be closest to the current license is
the 3-clause BSD license: http://www.debian.org/misc/bsd.license
