That makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

I wonder if this issue is likely to become more prominent, now that
Totem apparently offers to download media codecs required to play back
content. Depending on what codecs are covered and where they are
downloaded from, that could give rise to similar questions.

And if this is being done for Totem, it is entirely conceivable that
other packages (e.g. Compiz) could start to adopt a similar approach
with graphical drivers, in the name of "user convenience".
