The GPL would do just fine, and since he's used it on the rest of the software, he might be disposed to grant you use of the GPL on the documentation. When this has come up before (with Procmail, years ago), I put the author's authorization email in the Debian copyright file. Nobody had a problem with that. Thanks Bruce
