Fwd: Xorg - segfault

1. You run the command "X -configure" successfully and it created the new config file /root/xorg.conf.new.

When I installed the system, it ran perfectly. And now, when I give this command aggain( installed other drivers, had to rerun Xorg --configure command) I get the segfault error.

I read that the fglrx driver is a little better optimized for my video
card, than the radeon - there were many issues with it, for example
overheating. So that shouldn't be a problem, furthermore  it was still
installed, when I first run the Xorg -configure command. (i don't want
to modify the existing xorg configuration until I find a solution why
the configuration fails, because looking for answers without X is not
much fun :) so it will be only a plan Z until next weekend).
I read that maybe video drivers causes some problem because they load
before X starts - I start it directly with startx - or sg like that. I'm
not very into Xorg.. so everything count as clue.

If you have other tips, please carry on.  :)

...only that i do not misunderstand you:

1. You run the command "X -configure" successfully and it created the new config file /root/xorg.conf.new.

2. You run the command "X -config file /root/xorg.conf.new" command and the "segmentationfault" happened which produced the Xorg.0.log file that you posted?

3. Without this new xorg.conf file all runs well?

Is this right?

If so it's necessary that you post your new xorg.conf file which you want to use.

When using the proprietary fglrx driver kernel-mode-setting must be disabled. The driver should do this automatically during boot time.

Greetings

Dirk
