are you sure your AP is set to WPA?
Also, if it's a cardbus pccard (32bit, not a 16bit pcmcia), vendor likely
provides NDIS driver for MS-W*, which you can try to use instead of hostap*
with ndiswrapper (if such ndis driver supports WPA, that is).
