Erm, you are right. The original message incorrectly said "Core Duo", and the old Core Duo family didn't support 64 bit instructions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_Duo The T5500 is really a Core 2 Duo, a family which does support 64 bit instructions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2_Duo (they are called EM64T, but are compatible with AMD64).
