I get a similar report, but it works just fine (as well as ndiswrapper). The
only issue i had was the firmware but i stole it from my windows
partition(yes i know, but Windows is so cool for playing some neat games).
I'm running Debian Sid with kernel 2.6.17-2-686 and my laptop is a Compaq
Presario 2500.

If you mean the update of BIOS, I think that in my case (HP Compaq nx
6125) it is only available under M$ Window$... Do You any way to
update it under GNU/Linux ?? Is it possible ??

Take a look at this file and you will see why this is
happening:/etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules
but that shouldn't be a problem.

Oh !, I see. So..., should I connect the wifi card of my laptop by
interface eth0 instead wlan0 ?

Thanks again for your observations.
