Re: Broadcom 4318

While we're on this subject, Can anyone provide me with help regarding
the broadcom 4309, aka the Dell Truemobile 1450?

I've read far and wide that this card is yet to be supported by the
bcm43xx drivers, but I've actually seen it working with the sid
netinstall CD (kernel 2.6.17.2)- it's how I netinstalled on this laptop
3 nights ago.

Unfortunately, The first thing I did was to compile a new kernel
(2.6.18.1 w/nvidia-kernel-source) and since then I've been seeing
somewha unusul behavior that has been reported elsewhere, in the form
of RX but no TX. I can iwlist eth0 scan and see the following:
root@shinji:/home/conor# iwlist eth0 scan
eth0 Scan completed :
           Cell 01 - Address: 00:0E:2E:0D:0D:CE
                     ESSID:"backnet"
                     Protocol:IEEE 802.11b
                     Mode:Master
                     Channel:11
                     Encryption key:off
                     Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s
                     Quality=100/100  Signal level=-137 dBm
                     Extra: Last beacon: 129ms ago
when I run dhclient on the interface I get no leases, and the following
appears in dmesg (DEBUG turned on in kernel):

If however, I bring up the interface and tcpdump it, I can see my
network traffic. Forcing the interface to use a valid IP, route, and
subnet doesn't get me on the network either, nor does configuring the
device manually via iwconfig.

I'm fairly certain I have compiled in anything pertinent to the card in
the kernel that was also in the netinstall kernel, so the only
difference might be the firmware the netinstall kernel used. I've tried
no fewer than 4 different drivers with fwcutter- the ones from dell's
ftp, the apple airport drivers (considered to be the most successful,
and others mentioned in the bcm43xx-fwcutter man pages.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've had this laptop for 3 years now,
and this is the first time I've seen the card work with any degree of
success, only to have it snatched from me again!

Hi colleagues,

Precisely, I have a problem a bit similar of that of Mr. Adhyas Avasthi.
In my casde, I noted that, on my laptop which works under linux kernel
2.6.18 (Debian Sid), the Broadcom 4318 wifi card is natively
supported.
But, indeed, I don't reach that it runs.

Doing dmesg, I obtain,

# dmesg | grep bcm43xx
bcm43xx driver
bcm43xx: Chip ID 0x4318, rev 0x2
bcm43xx: Number of cores: 4
bcm43xx: Core 0: ID 0x800, rev 0xd, vendor 0x4243, enabled
bcm43xx: Core 1: ID 0x812, rev 0x9, vendor 0x4243, disabled
bcm43xx: Core 2: ID 0x804, rev 0xc, vendor 0x4243, enabled
bcm43xx: Core 3: ID 0x80d, rev 0x7, vendor 0x4243, enabled
bcm43xx: PHY connected
bcm43xx: Detected PHY: Version: 3, Type 2, Revision 7
bcm43xx: Detected Radio: ID: 8205017f (Manuf: 17f Ver: 2050 Rev: 8)
bcm43xx: Radio turned off
bcm43xx: Radio turned off

... Radio turned off ?? Core 1.. disabled ??
What's that ?

Moreover, doing iwconfig the eth1 interface is set up instead of wlan0
(that doesn't appear)

How can I do ?

Thanks in advance.

David
