any clues as to how and get the wireless working with Madwifi drivers?

I found the beginner's howto,  http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo , very helpful when first setting up my wireless. Have a look at that, try it out and report any problems. For some reason, your lspci doesn't list the precise model. My own says

02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)

. Perhaps you know the version from the instructions? Any way, give it a shot and see what happens.
