usb mass storage -> which fs

Hey,

    I purchased a USB 2.0 hdd enclosure along with a 80GB toshiba laptop
harddrive. I plan on using this USB HDD for storing large media files. I
also plan on using this enclosure to facilitate the transfer of files 
between my laptop and other PC's.

Which file system would be best suitable for cross platform compatibility? 

For the most part, I share with Winblows PC's. Do microsoft OSes use
vfat for accessing USB storage devices?

Sorry guys, I haven't used a Microsoft product since Windows 98.
