Re: Debian on USB external Harddisk drive
Hello Kalyan,
If the little challenge is ok for you, then why not install on usb-stick?
This should be at least as fast as a harddrive, and if it doesn't work
as expected then you surely can make use of the stick in other
ways. It's not the cheapest solution, because you probably need
1GB, (though it may work with less, like 512MB, too.)
And then there's only limited space for installing packages - possibly
not enough for a full KDE or GNOME desktop. But you can install a
WMaker or fvwm (kind of) desktop and run some either gnome or kde
applications, i think. Openoffice ? Don't know.... You would learn to
configure a rather smart system, which could be interesting ;)
You may store heavy data on the windows NTFS partition, from linux,
a recent 2.6.15 linux kernel should work well enough nowadays.
(But with windows there's never any guarantee, so perhaps store nothing
mission-critical this way). It would also be interesting to hear your experience
on this list, later, because it is kind of a typical situation you seem to face.
