I read on the datasheet of my laptop the following sentence: "ACPI functions: S1 standby (LCD off) ...". Indeed, 'echo -n "1" > /proc/acpi/sleep' switch off the LCD, but the only way to wake up the computer is to switch it off and boot it again... Shouldn't it come up again by pressing the power button?
