Removing a package leaves config files in place, including scripts in /etc/init.d. Suggest you run 'dpkg -l "*" | grep "^.c"' to discover which packages need purging and then run 'apt-get remove --purge <package>'. If you switch to aptitude, you can just do 'aptitude purge <package>'. Cheers, FJP
