Network and Sound issues
Hello Everyone!!
I am new to the whole debian scene, and mailing lists in general, but I was
told this was the right place to ask hard questions. That said, here is a
sit-rep of my two problems: I am running Debian (2.24 I believe) on a Compaq
presario 1230. This laptop is about 7 years old, making it perfect for
debian :)!! Anyways I got debian installed, and X-Windows up and running. It
works great except the network card and sound do not work. My nic is a
"Xircom Credit Card Ethernet 10/100 Ready" (Xircom CE3B -100BTX). How do I
get it to work? (what drivers to add, and files to edit, etc.?) It is
critical that this problem get solved! As for the sound, I get a message
everytime to start X-Windows, saying that I do not have permission to used
the "dsp" device that generates the sound. How do I correct this? I
installed the 'vanilla' flavor of debian, if that helps.... Any help would
be fantastic! Thanks!
-Will
