Install the `wireless-tools' package, then add bits like this to your
/etc/network/interfaces file for the wireless interface:

    wireless_mode		managed
    wireless_essid		sample
    wireless_key1		1234567890

Alternatively, consider `waproamd', which may be what you are after.
