keyboard dies when closing screen

when i close the lid on my fujitsu p1120, sometimes the keyboard stops 
responding.

its quite odd though, even the system keys appear non-functional, 
vis-a-vise num lock, although it is a rather odd numlock.

its still active on the network.

also, pushing the power button starts the shutdown process, the whole 
"system is shutting down" message appears, but nothing ever closes, it 
never resets.  the hard drive just spins a while and that appears to be 
that.

how do i control and monitor these acpi events.
