The 9000 has vastly better 3D stuff, and better hardware DVD stuff. I
don't know that either of those works well (or at all) under Linux.
Xv isn't working right with the 9000, so hardware accelerated video
playback isn't available yet.

The 7500 works fine with XFree86 4.2; it's DRI and Xv work fine[1].

The nVIDIA stuff has no Linux 3d support but the free 'nv' driver works
pretty well, so this all seems to be fine. I believe this has Xv support
as well.

The 7500 is on the middle band for game support (with Windows); the 9000
is in the front band. So, expect to be unable to run games in two years
with the 7500.

Footnotes:
[1] DRI locks up after a while for me, so I disable it, but others
     report success. YMMV.
